Annual Shellfish Association of Great Britain Conference
The Shellfish Association of Great Britain’s 44th Annual Conference, Dinner and AGM 21st & 22nd May 2013 at Fishmongers’ Hall, London
For the 44th Consecutive year the UK Shellfish Industry will gather for the Annual Shellfish Association of Great Britain Conference being held over two days on 21st and 22nd May at Fishmongers’ Hall, London.
We are now able to announce the attendance of our two keynote speakers – the first – Richard Benyon MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Natural Environment and Fisheries who will open the Conference by giving an update on the opportunities and challenges ahead from a UK shellfish Industry perspective; And Viktoria Varga-Lencses from DG MARE, EU Commission, who will kick off proceedings on the second day with a presentation regarding “EU Aquaculture in the CFP Reform: challenges and opportunities”.
Due to time constraints and the need to use the time most effectively, the Association is inviting delegates who would like to pose questions to either speaker, to email them to Claire Tibbott at Claire.Tibbott@FishHall.org.uk. The deadline for submitting your question(s) is the 10th May. You will be notified in advance of the Conference if your question has been selected to be asked.
Mr Benyon and Ms Varga-Lencses will be joined by an impressive array of speakers who have agreed to take part. Amongst others, topics covered by presentations this year will be the Blue Marine Foundation project in Lyme Bay, Offshore Aquaculture, the new role of the IFCAs, Water Companies working with industry, protected name status for shellfish (PGI, PGO), the Chinese Mitten Crab and analysis of shellfish stock assessments (nephrops). We are also proud to announce that Seafish’s new film – “The Business of Fishing” will be shown at the end of the first day.
The conference will be of great value to all sectors of the industry, with approximately 150 fishermen, cultivators, regulators, decision-makers, and environmental organisations expected to be present.
The Annual Black Tie Dinner will be taking place on the evening of the 21st May and we are honoured to have with us Paul Rose, Vice President of The Royal Geographical Society, BBC TV Presenter, Explorer and Ocean Advocate as our After Dinner Speaker.
